Input Shaft (Repair)
Sector:
Gearbox Manufacture
Scope of work:
Customer had come across an issue when stripping down a Gearbox , inspection had highlighted significant signs of wear on a Input shaft. They contacted the team at Nicol & Andrew (MSPE) knowing that we would have a solution that to eliminate the requirement of manufacturing a new shaft.
This wasn’t an issue for us, and we came up with a solution in a timely manner, to minimize anymore downtime for the customer. Once the part was received at Nicol & Andrew (MSPE) we inspected to see the full extent of work required.
Part was then machined undersize to remove any offset wear and ensure the OD was round and true. Diatec 1060 (HVOF) was then applied to bring the part oversize from finish dimensions.
Final step was to finish grind the part bringing it back in line with tolerances agreed with the customer.
Results:
Customer has now fully refurbished part at a reduced cost and Leadtime. Base material of this component will now be more resilient to corrosion and wear due to the superior properties our Diatec 1060 offer compared to the original material.
